Our Location:We are located on the north-west side of the Flomatcher building just east of downtown Corvallis, across Highway 34 from the Golf Course. By bike, foot, or car, take the Van Buren Bridge out of town; go passed the light for the 34 bypass, then take the next right on to Ireland Lane. Stay to the right to arrive at our new location. Circle the green building to the right (counter clockwise) to find us. Still a little uncertain how to get there? Check out these more detailed directions with pictures. Also make sure we're open, by checking our latest shop hours?
Our Philosophy: Putting Bikes Under PeopleThe Corvallis Bike Collective is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization. We are comprised entirely of volunteers dedicated to putting safe, affordable, working bikes under all people of Corvallis and putting those bikers on the roads. We want as many people as possible to have access one of the safest, healthiest, affordable, and environmentally sustainable forms of transportation. We help promote access by helping bikers not just keep their bikes running, but also teaching people how to care for their bikes and putting tools in their hands to do it. We educate bikers about maintenance, repairs, safety, and sustainable transportation advocacy. All of our services are currently free and all of our bikes and parts are sold at very affordable prices.
We value and promote:
The Bike ShopOur shop, the focal point of our organization, receives donations of parts or worn bicycles to rebuild them into complete bikes, recycling what we cannot use and sell at a deep discount used parts you might need. As bikes are completed, they are donated, sold at an affordable rate, or traded to volunteers in exchange for their hours of effort supporting our organization.
We also open up our bike shop and make freely available tools, bike stands, and the cooperative expertise and advice of whoever is around, so that you can keep your bikes running.
The CBC serves all members of the Corvallis community and has made a lot of friends. Recently, the CBC shop served over 200 people per month even while being open less than 20 hours/week.
Give a Little More Than You GetThat simple idea is the only way the Bike Collective has operated as long as it has, and it's the only way it will continue. We love any type of donation: Parts, bikes, cash, time, workspace, expertise, shop help, fundraising, good karma, Corvallis Hour Exchange Hours, etc.
If you're interested in volunteering by helping us work on disassembling/reassembling bikes, sorting and labeling parts, or otherwise working around the shop, fill out an interest form on our volunteer page. Or better yet, stop by whenever we're next open and talk to the shop manager.
If you want to help us plan our events, set our agenda, or to otherwise help co-lead the cooperative, join our Google Group and come to our meetings. Meetings are currently the second and forth Tuesdays at 6:00 pm, but double check our Calendar, as these times may change.
Current Needs:
Our New Home! When we started out, we were lucky to have had the strong support of Oregon State University and its Student Sustainability Initiative to get started with rent-free space and access to energetic student volunteers for the first few years of our existence. Due to changes in of OSU Policy, our agreement with them could not be renewed.
But now, with help from the City of Corvallis' Parks and Recreation, we have now reopened in our new location just east of Downtown Corvallis across the Van Buren Bridge in the Flomatcher building.
Regular hours are now on our calendar, but please pay attention to our news feed; Facebook page; and Twitter Feed for the latest updates. |
